Let the mind arise without dwelling anywhere.
Not on having, not on judging, not on what is gone.
The moment it fixes on a thing, the thing has already moved.
With no place to abide, the mind can meet whatever comes.
Origin
From the Diamond Sutra (Vajracchedikā Prajñāpāramitā), the "Adorning the Pure Land" section — chapter 10 in Prince Zhaoming's thirty-two-fold division. The sixth patriarch Huineng is said to have awakened on hearing this line.
Seal
Cut by hand in Tokyo by the artist. The angle of the blade and the depth of the stroke decide where the ink bleeds and where it holds. No imprint repeats.
