One character for a long life.
The old form is said to trace the long, winding path between rice fields.
It is also the word of blessing itself — to wish another well.
To endure, and to be celebrated for enduring, rest together in a single sign.
Origin
Not a phrase from a Zen collection but a single auspicious character. The simplified form of 壽, glossed in the Shuowen Jiezi as "that which endures." It carries both long life and the act of blessing.
Seal
Cut by hand in Tokyo by the artist. The angle of the blade and the depth of the stroke decide where the ink bleeds and where it holds. No imprint repeats.
